About News Feeds

We help you explore your news interests by collecting stories from sites on the web. We’re in the process of creating collections by topic — “aggregations” — into individual News-Jumper sites based on topics such as environment, photography, science, celebrity gossip, military, fashion, gaming, sports, politics, automobiles, and Macintosh. At each News-Jumper site, we display the headlines of the latest stories from dozens of sites and blogs.

You can think of an News-Jumper site as a “digital magazine rack” of the Internet. News-Jumper sites are starting points—they are not destinations - the news is the destination. The bottom line is that we are trying to enhance your online reading by both displaying stories from the sites that you’re already visiting and helping you discover sites that you didn’t know existed.

What Got Us Started

Each morning I get up and go to my "regular" website for the latest news. My personal interest are F1 Racing, Junior Golf, World News and last but not least Macintosh. Problem was it was taking me an hour to visit all of my favorite sites looking for new news stories. Not being "plugged into" the latest developments - that is I had not heard of PopURLs - I started researching RSS feeds from a programming standpoint. I finally arrived at SimplePie - and Open Source RSS "Engine" with a great library of code snippets that I could use to assemble a single webpage with the RSS feed that were of interest to me.

Where Do We Go From Here?

I am in the process of creating News-Jumper pages for a wide variety of topics - as I mentioned above. But there are a lot of companies and organizations that would like a constantly updating news page that would be aimed at the specific interest of their customers or members. One such page is the New Page for the Alabama Junior Golf Organization (AJGO). The AJGO News Page has golf news of particular interest to its members and they also post (on Flickr) photos from tournaments of the winners and video instruction tips that can be viewed online.

What we have in mind is developing News-Jumper type pages for businesses and organizations. If you're interested in your own custom News-Jumper type news page - send me an email.
